The FadR regulator regulates the fad gene
FadR regulator controls fatty acid metabolism. In the pET-22b-LK vector, the FadR binding site of the FadH promoter is cloned in front of the lumbrokinase gene (BBa_K4673017), replacing the lac operator. In the absence of fatty acids, FadR will bind to the FadR binding site and inhibit lumbrokinase expression; however, when fatty acids are present, they are degraded into acetyl-CoA by E. coli. This causes acetyl-CoA to bind on and release FadR, allowing lumbrokinase expression.
